Our water management services use soil moisture monitoring to ensure proper irrigation and save money.
Water is often the most expensive and least available resource we have now and in the future. As Mark twain once said, “Whiskey is for drinking; water is for fighting over.”
We provide, install and maintain:
• Soil moisture monitoring tools
• Data logger
• Radio and data transmission devises
Too much water can do damage to plants, attract unwanted pests, foster unwanted weeds, and create disease conditions. Fertility cost go up because of leaching, pruning costs go up because of excessive growth, and plant health can suffer because of low oxygen or root diseases. It tends to attract sucking insect pests such as aphids, leafhoppers, and scale.
Too little water can reduce growth, limit nutrients, produce poor quality crops, small sizes and increase salts. Soil salts can increase stress and cause other pest problems, such as mites, wood borers and diseases related to sunburn, trunk diseases or salt.
We start with a weather-based water budgeting program such as CIMIS. Or the limitations a grower may have in a base program he is already using. Such as, only so many hours or gallons of irrigation per week. We use soil moisture monitoring to keep irrigation on track. Soil variables determined from soil samples tell us the influence soil chemistry has on the behavior of water in your particular soils. We look at soil texture and water holding capacity to determine water storage capacity, and we help identify water penetration problems.
Our water management services help to ensure proper frequency and duration of irrigation to save money while meeting your production goals.
